This page explains the 'Approaching Resource Limit' message that you may have received and explains the options to handle it. Your website comes with defined limits on the amount of disk space used and the amount of 'traffic' to your website. The message you received indicates you are coming close to your maximum for your plan or you have exceeded it.

APPROACHING RESOURCE LIMIT
Summary disk usage account:82555 has used 149.02 MB out of 150 MB
limit
APPROACHING RESOURCE LIMIT
29 GB of traffic has been used this month out of 25 GB limit
What is it? Calculated by adding up the total number of web page related files and the amount of email on the server for your domain. Generally excessive email on the server is a common reason for the disk usage to be high. Disk usage is shown on the home page in your website Control Panel.
Sample:
Why is it high? Generally there are two things that cause high disk usage. One is having a large number of web pages files uploaded onto your website. Certain file types, such as Video or Audio files can use a large amount of disk space as well. The second and most common reason is excessive amounts of email that are being left on the server.
Ways to handle this:
Option 1: Upgrade your Account for more disk space. Use this option if you simply don't want to delete any files and feel you just need the extra space. To upgrade to the next level, contact us. To review hosting plans that we offer, see this page.
Option 2: Remove extra files or email on the server. Follow the steps below to do this.
To check for excessive email on the server:
Log in to your Control Panel
Click on the
Disk Usage Details Button
This page will list usage by:
Mysql: Amount of storage used for Databases
Mail for Domain: (to remove extra email, see step 4)
User Account: Files uploaded to the website (see step 5)
Email: Click on the e-mail button in the bottom center
Click on any email box. To
the right it will show the disk space used by that box. Example:
(quota
.03
MB out of 25mb)
Note the 'Postmaster' email box is a system mailbox and cannot be removed or altered.
If you find an email account with a large amount of email, consider doing the following:
Contact the user and ask them to change their email program to not keep a copy of email on the server. This is a common setting in email software. In Outlook Express it is under Tools > Accounts > Properties for Account > Advanced > "Leave a copy of mail on the server: uncheck this'.
If the user is using the web-based email, have them log in to their webmail and download and then remove any large messages.
You may also delete the email account entirely and then set it up again to remove all of the email for that account. Note that once it is deleted, the email can't be recovered.
Tip: if an account is set as the 'catch all' account, it will receive emails not sent to a valid user on your domain. For example, someone can send to non-valid-user@your-domain-here.net and the 'catch all' account will receive it. This will sometimes make the 'catch all' build up with email quickly. Consider turning the catch-all OFF if this is happening.
Tip: Change the maximum storage limit (quota) for your email users to a lower limit. The default value is 25mb. Click on the email box and then to the right, CHANGE the Quota.
After deleting the extra email, check your disk usage on your home page the next day. It should now be reduced.
User Account: Log in to your Control Panel and click on the FILE MANAGER button.
Look through directories for large files. Note the file size is listed to the right of each file. Generally files over 5mb could be considered larger files. (b or Kb size files are too small to worry about)
Click on the File Name and then check the
box to the right. Click
on the Delete button in the bottom right.
What is it? Calculated by adding up the total number of visitors who view your web page and the number of pages they view. Transfer is shown on the home page in your website Control Panel.
Why is it high? Generally it just means you are getting a lot of visitors to your website. Or, you may have a large file that a smaller number of visitors are downloading often. You can look to see which files are being downloaded the most by checking your Web Statistics at www.your-domain-here.net/webalizer.
Click on the Month to check
Click on TOP URLs at the top
Scroll down to 'Top 10 of 75 Total URLs By KBytes' This shows you the files that have been downloaded the most.
Ways to handle this:
Option 1: Upgrade your Account for more transfer. Use this option if you simply don't want to delete any files and feel you just need the extra transfer. To upgrade to the next level, contact us. To review hosting plans that we offer, see this page.
Option 2: Remove the files on the server causing the extra transfer. This may or may not resolve the issue, as particular files are not always the cause. You may just have a popular website! Follow the steps below to do this. See these steps to remove the file.
